ARB On The Cover Review: 2010 Cadillac Converj Concept
At first blush, the Converj may be the most exciting concept to emerge from Detroit this year. It sort of looks like the beautiful CTS Coupe from last year’s show was crossed with a Lamborghini Gallardo to resemble a Cadillac—only sportier. But this wild-looking concept is more than just a pretty face. The hook here is that the Converj has the same innovative power train as the much ballyhooed Chevrolet Volt. As a result, the Converj is claimed to travel 40 miles on electricity alone, thanks to the lithium-ion battery pack that is recharged by a small four-cylinder engine. General Motors now calls this technology Voltec, and they appear to be getting very serious about it. In fact, GM announced that they will be in the battery business, partnering with a Korean company to research and build them, including a state-of-the-art laboratory that will likely be built in Michigan. Maybe the best part about the Converj is that someone finally made an environmentally friendly eco-mobile that actually looks good. What a concept.
