Sure, your ego and your checkbook would have to be abnormally bloated to drive the new Bentley Mulsanne, but darn it, it’s just such a sweet ride. Bentley’s flagship was recently unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance in Monterey, California, and the rich wept tears of joy. The Mulsanne will be the first new Bentley “designed, engineered and built from the ground up” by Bentley engineers since the 1930 Bentley 8-Liter. So far, details are somewhat sketchy on the new Mulsanne, so we have to make some educated guesses here. The car is expected to be priced in the $300,000 range, which means it would compete head-to-head with the monstrously ostentatious Rolls Royce Phantom. There’s no doubt that it will be equipped with a very refined power plant, as an updated version of the venerable 6.75-liter V8 is expected. Appearance-wise, the Mulsanne is more formal than some of other Bentley designs as of late, but it doesn’t seem as forced or awkward as a Phantom or Maybach. Although Bentley says the Mulsanne is not a direct replacement of the long-produced Arnage sedan, it does fill the shoes of the discontinued flagship rather nicely. Look for the Mulsanne to go on sale in mid-2010 as a 2011 model.

THIS CAR IS A MONSTER OF ENGINEERING! THE SEXIEST CAR FOR 2011, UNTIL THEY DECIDE TO MAKE A BROOKLANDS SEDANCA COUPE.
You are all out of your mind, wait for the new Rolls-Royce Ghost...
The Ghost too was my first choice for grand saloon. Notice I said "was." The Ghost has nothing on the Mulsanne. I've seen them both, first hand. I was at Pebble Beach and several of the last auto shows. The Mulsanne is like nothing ever seen before. Utterly breathtaking.
It's nice, but why is the high beam headlight oddly misaligned?
