Price Digests is adding an LSV VIN searchable database to its product lineup. The database will include model and pricing information from all major manufacturers of LSVs which qualify under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirements for those type vehicles (49 CFR Part 571.500). Click here for information.
NHTSA’s recently modified category of passenger vehicle has certain pre-defined attributes. Once met, these vehicles may be licensed and driven on public roads. State and local jurisdictions cannot restrict the sale of these vehicles as passenger vehicles but can define where they may be driven.
In addition, the equipment needed to be included in the classification of “LSV” are: 4 wheels, speed of not less than 20 nor more than 25 miles per hour, headlamps, front and rear turn signal lamps, tail lamps, stop lamps, reflex reflectors, exterior and/or interior mirrors, a parking brake, a windshield, a Vehicle Identification Number and a seat belt assembly at each designated seating position. LSVs do not have to comply with any other Federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSSs). Also, they cannot exceed a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 3000 pounds. A small portion of golf cars may qualify as a LSV, however that is not the standard.
Increasingly, our professional customers have asked us to build a VIN decipherable LSV database to provide a solution for insuring, licensing/taxing and lending on LSV’s. The inaugural product will include as many makes and models of LSV’s as possible, while expanding the data each year with the latest information.
In addition, the used values provided by our guide will serve LSV owners who are looking to trade-in or sell their vehicle.
