On The Cover Review: 2012 Ford Expedition
Ford is known for the capability of their F-150 pickup, and the Expedition is like the SUV version of their perennial best-seller. The old-school body-on-frame configuration is important to people who need to tow a boat trailer or haul up to eight people. And the big 5.4-liter, 310-hp V8 can do things that lesser V6 crossover-based trucklets can never achieve. The Expedition does have some car-like qualities, however, like the ride-smoothing independent rear suspension. The Expedition actually comes in two sizes; regular, which would compete directly with a Chevy Tahoe, and EL, which would face off against the Suburban. There is an expedition model for almost any style, including a two-wheel-drive XL starting at $36,305. Or go big and order a fancy four-wheel-drive King Ranch edition, which’ll set you back $52,105 plus options. For proven, rugged dependability, the Ford Expedition may just be the ticket.
